Dale Stephan presented an overview of using the “newish” Photos app from Apple. “Photos” replaces “iPhoto”. Due to the new name and the conversion that occurs with the photo library, “Photos” has generated some concerns. Dale's goal was to cover what “Photos” is and help everyone warm up to using it.

This month we had a special presenter. Mike PJ graciously agreed to visit us and share insights on the new Apple TV and its associated tvOS. Mike explained the features of the new system and the benefits of owning one. Dale Stephan also demonstrated the Duet application that allows you to use your iPad as an external monitor for your MacBook or Windows laptop.

This month Dale Stephan (president) presented ‘Siri’, Apple’s digital assistant. Dale’s intermixed slides showing Siri live on the big screen. Many of the actions he showed were simple and basic to our daily lives and were things that we can all use on a regular basis.

This month we held a special group of mini-presentations. We called it “My Favorite Apps” and it was open to everyone to participate. The board members kicked off the meeting presenting a quick overview of some of their favorite apps.

With travel in mind, this month Ritchie Clayton showed everyone how to use Google Maps to help plan those winter trips. Using Maps was in our top 5 topics requested so this was a highly anticipated presentation.

The December meeting was our annual Christmas holiday celebration. Members brought treats to share. Our singing elves are worked hard on another epic song and dance number. Because Apple Pay is being so well received and because Doug Leng has had success in using it with his new iPhone, we asked Doug to present how he’s using his iPhone and Apple Pay. He showed us how it’s done at the December meeting.

This month's meeting discussed the Video Creation Process and was presented by Mary Nesset. Mary showed us details on how she created a video and DVD for her mother-in-law’s 100th birthday party. She described the hardware, software and time requirements, along with how she went about gathering the necessary resources for the video. Finally, she’ll discussed many of the tips and techniques used in iPhoto and iMovie, as well as how to go about exporting a movie file and compiling it into a physical DVD.

The Digital Imaging Special Interest Group meeting in November was a success. The turnout was adequate and the topic talks were great. Doug Leng covered many of the features of iPhoto 11, and Ron Browne showed us how to enhance portraits in Photoshop 3.

The initial meeting of the new Web Design SIG was held on June 7, 2011. We had lots of members interested in learning how to design a website. Randy Walker gave us an overview of the process involved in all aspects of web design. The group decided to meet next time on the first Tuesday of August.

This day-long meeting was a MacCamp and was a great success. Just under 60 people attended, and there was a lot of great discussion throughout the day. About a half dozen people installed Snow Leopard on their Macs, and as far as I know everyone’s upgrade has gone smoothly. Thanks to everyone who helped make this MacCamp possible.

This meeting, expanded our prior experience based on lessons learned and use additional equipment. We talked about mixing flash with continuous lighting and demonstrated Nikon’s Camera Control Pro 2. This gave us a live view of what the camera sees displayed on the projector screen. We used only one workstation this time with more control on the quality of pictures.

Lynn Dumbrille conducted a workshop. Groups of 2-3 people shared a Mac and performed image touch-ups using operations such as crop, select, copy, paste, transform, sizing, blend, burn, dodge, adjustment layers, paint bucket, sharpen, saturate, tone, white balance, and a filter.

Our May meeting took place at Messiah Lutheran Church, where we held a MacCamp with the Saginaw Macintosh Users Group (SMUG). A great time was had by all and everyone learned a lot.
